The article "SimProgramming: uma abordagem motivacional para a aprendizagem de alunos intermediários de programação” [SimProgramming: a motivational approach to learning for intermediate students of programming], by Ricardo Rodrigues Nunes, researcher at the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) of INESC TEC, won the award for best paper at the "III Workshop on Teaching Computational Thinking, Algorithms and Programming - WAlgProg/2017".

HOPE is the name of the videogame that won a prize of 50 thousand euros by getting the first place of the Astellas Oncology C3 Prize, an international competition that distinguishes the best technological therapies for cancer patients.
INESC TEC participates in project about climate change on the coast of Galicia and Northern Portugal
The first meeting of the cross-border project MarRISK took place on the 11th of July in Santiago de Compostela. This project is coordinated by METEOGALICIA (regional meteorological agency of Galicia) and was approved by the Operational Programme for Cross-border Cooperation: Spain – Portugal (POCTEP). INESC TEC is one of the partners of the project.

Project RELECT of INESC TEC gathers data to study environmental radioactivity

Google's Digital News Initiative (DNI) innovation fund, which aims to support and encourage innovation in digital journalism over the next three years, has offered around € 100,000 to fund two projects by researchers at INESC TE’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), developed jointly by the University of Porto.
INESC TEC and APDL celebrate 20 years of partnership
INESC TEC and the APDL (Port Authority for the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo, SA) signed an addendum to their cooperation protocol during the Business2Sea, formerly called the Sea Fair. This year the initiative took place at the Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre on November 16.
Project CE4Blind improves quality of life of the visually impaired
INESC TEC, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin, in the United States, and ACAPO (the Portuguese Association for the Visually Impaired), has developed a mobile digital platform capable of improving the quality of life of the visually impaired in a non-invasive manner.
US Navy funds INESC TEC project
INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) has submitted an application to the Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) of the United States of America, where the goal is to study new algorithms to monitor multiple objects in extreme light conditions. The application has now been approved.
INESC TEC in COST Action on atmospheric electricity
INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) is involved in a COST Action on atmospheric electricity, a multi-disciplinary subject that deals with the electric field of the Earth's atmosphere and how this influences the Earth and biological systems. The COST Action kicked off on 4 October and is expected to last four years.
INESC TEC organises conference on Computing, Communication and Aesthetics
The call for papers is now open for the conference xCoAx - Computation, Communication, Aesthetics, and X, an event organised by INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), which will take place in July 2017 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. The deadline for submission of papers is 29 January 2017.
INESC TEC wins two Digital Inclusion and Literacy Awards
Two projects led by INESC TEC researchers received the “Digital Inclusion and Literacy Award”, sponsored by the Portuguese funding agency Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). The award ceremony was held on 13 September at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

Artificial Aesthetics is the title of the book recently published by Miguel Carvalhais, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG). In this book, published by U.Porto Edições, the researcher addresses the use of computer systems in design and the arts.

Ana Paiva and Nuno Flores, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), have won a Best Paper Award as part of the HEAD'16 – 2nd International Conference on Higher Education Advances, which took place in Valencia, Spain, between 21 and 23 June.

Leonel Morgado, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), is co-chair of the scientific committee of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN 2016), to be held between 27 June and 1 July at the University of California (Santa Barbara campus).
INESC TEC with best paper award in Saudi Arabia
Hugo Paredes, Hugo Fernandes, André Sousa, Vítor Filipe and João Barroso, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), received a best paper award at the International Conference on Recent Advances in Computer Systems (RACS-2015), which took place between 30 November and 1 December at the College of Computer Science and Engineering, Hail University, in Saudi Arabia.
Portuguese ports are world pioneers in technological innovation
Two of the most technologically advanced ports in the world are Portuguese. The Ports of Leixões and Viana do Castelo, managed by the Port Authority of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo (APDL), were the pilot in an innovation project led by INESC TEC and TRIEDE TTI.
INESC TEC wants to increase e-Inclusion and autonomy of the blind with mobile digital platform
Increasing the autonomy of the blind or people with low vision, allowing them to be included in a large set of activities and improving their quality of life, using a mobile digital platform – this is INESC TEC’s goal with project CE4BLIND (Context Extraction for the blind using computer vision), which starts in May and will last 12 months.
INESC TEC wins FCT’s Digital Inclusion and Literacy Award
Ramiro Gonçalves, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) and associate professor in IT at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, has won the Digital Inclusion and Literacy Award, promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with the project “Barometer for Web accessibility in Portugal”.
