INESC TEC creates 1st 3D video system in the world to help patients with epilepsy
A team of researchers from INESC TEC’s Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER), led by João Paulo Cunha, have created the first system in the world to use 3D video technology to extract body movements during epileptic seizures. This new system can help health professionals to diagnose patients and define therapies, not only for epilepsy patients, but also for patients with other neurological illnesses, such as Parkinson’s.

INESC TEC tool improves surgery planning for patients with breast cancer
INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) is participating in project BCCT.plan, in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation and ENERMETER. The goal with this projects is to develop a surgical planning tool to be used by medical teams, and help them to explore different surgical treatment strategies and offer personalised treatment.
Technological infrastructure for the sea with a larger national investment
It is called TEC4Sea and it is a groundbreaking European platform intended for investigating, developing, testing and validating technologies for the enhancement of the Economy of the Sea. Created by INESC TEC and CINTAL, this infrastructure has at its disposal an investment of 5.3 million euros in order to develop oceanic technologies and already has an Advisory Council composed of 10 reputable institutions in the Sea sector.

Porto Water Innovation Week with the participation of INESC TEC
INESC TEC participated in the Porto Water Innovation Week (PWIW), an initiative that transformed the city of Porto into the European capital of water and innovation, which took place between the 24th and the 30th of September at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre.
INESC TEC behind the biggest national R&D project in the area of media
The biggest national R&D project in the area of Media is called CHIC (Cooperative Holistic View on Internet and Content) and INESC TEC is part of it, with Artur Pimenta Alves as scientific coordinator of the preparation of the project. In accordance with the rules of mobilising projects, CHIC is headed by one company, MOG, represented by Alexandre Ulisses.
INESC TEC signed a protocol to join the Interface Program
INESC-ID, INESC-MN, INOV INESC Inovação and INESC TEC signed a protocol with the National Innovation Agency (ANI - Agência Nacional de Inovação), under the Interface Program, integrated into the National Reform Program (PNR, Programa Nacional de Reformas).
European project SmartGuide presents first results in Turin
The European project SmartGuide (Defining Planning and Operation Guidelines for European Smart Distribution Systems), which is funded under the ERA-Net SmartGris+ initiative, presented its first results in Turin (Italy).

INESC TEC researcher develops programme that predicts neurotoxicity of substances
An international research team has conducted a study where the goal was to use organoids created from stem cells, capable of emulating the complexity of the human nervous system, in order to identify the neurotoxicity of several substances. One of the team members is Vítor Santos Costa, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS).
INESC TEC proposes energy management using computational intelligence
Managing energy through computational intelligence, as if it were a brain – is the goal that Portugal wants to achieve and the theme discussed at the ISAP 2015 (International Conference on Intelligent Systems Applications to Power Systems, Conference and Debate), organised by INESC TEC in the city of Porto, which took place between 11 and 17 September. This was the 18th edition of the forum. The last edition took place in Tokyo.
INESC P&D Brasil participates in projects with Chilean universities
In July, INESC P&D Brasil started the project Proyecto MedFasee BT Chile - Observatorio de la Dinámica del Sistema Chileno, developed with Chile’s Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM), Universidad de Atacama (UDA) and Universidad de Concepción (UdeC).
Five papers by CTM researchers published in international journals
Music, movement, bridge and dam monitoring, wearable devices to monitor gait, algorithms for breast cancer diagnosis systems and image segmentation are the themes of the papers published in international journals by researchers of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) in 2014.
INESC TEC participates in Green Business Week 2015
On 5 December 2014, INESC TEC signed a letter of intent to cooperate with the AIP Foundation (structure belonging to the Portuguese Industrial Association) in the Green Business Week 2015 - National Week for Green Growth, which will take place between3 and 5 March 2015, at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa.
INESC TEC participates in project about climate change on the coast of Galicia and Northern Portugal
The first meeting of the cross-border project MarRISK took place on the 11th of July in Santiago de Compostela. This project is coordinated by METEOGALICIA (regional meteorological agency of Galicia) and was approved by the Operational Programme for Cross-border Cooperation: Spain – Portugal (POCTEP). INESC TEC is one of the partners of the project.
INESC TEC joins the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of India’s independence
The Indian community in Porto celebrated the 70th anniversary of India’s independence on the 15th of August, in an event at the Porto Hindu Association organised by researcher Chetak Kandaswamy in collaboration with INESC TEC’s India Office.
