FotoInMotion is the new research and development project of INESC TEC in the area of digital media and creative industries. This project aims to develop tools capable of creating immersive and contextualised multimedia stories from a photograph through the incorporation of virtual reality and 3D elements.

INESC TEC tool improves surgery planning for patients with breast cancer
INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) is participating in project BCCT.plan, in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation and ENERMETER. The goal with this projects is to develop a surgical planning tool to be used by medical teams, and help them to explore different surgical treatment strategies and offer personalised treatment.

INESC TEC develops solution for broadband communications for remote areas in the ocean
In October 2015, INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) started working on project BLUECOM+, whose goal is to connect humans and systems in remote locations of the ocean using broadband and low-cost communications. The project, led by INESC TEC and coordinated by the researcher Rui Campos, includes the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA, the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute), and MARLO AS (Norway) as partners.
INESC TEC develops underwater docking station for underwater robots
In October 2015, two teams from INESC TEC’s Centres for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB) have started working on project ENDURE, led by INESC TEC (project leader). The goal with this project is to develop an underwater docking station for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The station will allow these vehicles to remain in the ocean for long periods of time.
German company purchases license of software developed by INESC TEC
The software IBT, INESC Porto Beat Tracking, developed by the research group led by Matthew Davies, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), has stirred up interest with Mamoworld, a German company. The company, which signed the license on 15 November, has combined the IBT with software of their own in order to commercially exploit it.

A team composed of researchers from the Universities of Porto and Minho, including a researcher from INESC TEC and student of the MAP-i doctoral programme, Kelwin Fernandes, has created an intelligent system that makes it possible to increase by 15% the popularity of a news piece, and to identify the majority (73%) of news that will be most popular.
INESC TEC organises three summer schools: visum, MAP Breast and ASCOS
Part of INESC TEC mission is to provide advanced training at its R&D centres in their different areas of expertise. July was a month dedicated to advanced training. Several INESC TEC researchers have organised three summer schools – visum, MAP Breast and ASCOS.
