INESC TEC organises meeting on European Project SENSIBLE
Between 14 and 16 July, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) organised, together with EDP LABELEC and EDP Distribuição, a meeting on European project SENSIBLE – Storage-Enabled Sustainable Energy for Buildings and Communities, in the area of small scale and distributed storage. The project is funded by the European Commission, as part of Horizon 2020 – Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
José Carlos Príncipe receives Faculty Achievement Award
José Carlos Príncipe, president of INESC TEC’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and professor at University of Florida, USA, received the SEC Faculty Achievement Award 2016, which recognises faculty from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for their academic and scientific background.
INESC TEC poster awarded in Germany
A poster co-authored by João Paulo Cunha, coordinator of INESC TEC’s Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER), won 2nd place for best poster as part of the 23rd Annual Meeting of the German Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine (DGSM), which took place in Mainz, Germany, on 4 December.
INESC TEC supports international conference on image analysis and recognition
INESC TEC is supporting the 13th edition of ICIAR 2016 - International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition, which takes place between 13 and 15 July 2016 in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal.
INESC TEC starts project on cyber physical production systems
INESC TEC has recently kicked off the European project BEinCPPS – Business Experiments in Cyber Physical Production Systems, where the goal is to promote the implementation of cyber physical production systems (CPPS) in small and medium enterprises.
INESC TEC organises 1st Physics Engineering and Experimental Physics Conference
INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) is organising the 1st Physics Engineering and Experimental Physics Days (JEFFE),which will take place on 19 February at the Physics and Astronomy Department (DFA) of the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP).
INESC TEC in another mining project
Portugal will be participating in a European project where the goal is to explore, using robots, mines that have been closed and are partially underwater. The project will provide five million euros to build the first robots in the world capable of operating underground, autonomously and remotely. The submersible system will be tested in Portugal, Finland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.
INESC TEC supports and participates in bioengineering symposium
Biomedical engineering is one of the most recent areas of expertise at INESC TEC, particularly after the creation of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER) in the beginning of this year. However, INESC TEC was already working on several bio-related projects.
INESC TEC welcomes delegation from Macau
A delegation from the Macau Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) and leaders of Universities from that region visited INESC TEC on February 24 as part of a programme of visits to institutions in Lisbon, Porto and Braga.
Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research is the new unit at INESC TEC
In the beginning of the year, INESC TEC brought in yet another research unit: the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER). C-BER aims at promoting interdisciplinary knowledge through applied research, advanced training and innovation in Biomedical Engineering. The R&D unit is coordinated by Aurélio Campilho and João Paulo Cunha, two researchers with a consolidated career in the field.
Enterprise Europe Network at INESC TEC with new projects
INESC TEC, through its Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE), positioned itself again as a host organisation of the Enterprise Europe Network, the biggest international network dedicated to supporting internationalization of SME with a high innovation potential.
INESC TEC researcher is finalist in the Academy of Management Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award
Sérgio Costa, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE), is one of three finalists of the Academy of Management 2015 Entrepreneurship Division Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award, whose goal is to award PhD theses of excellence in the fields of entrepreneurship and management.
INESC TEC showcases innovative technologies in Open Day
On 6 May, INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) organised an Open Day to show companies and the general public innovative technologies in the fields of health, sea, music, multimedia, wireless networks, security, media and smartphones. This initiative marks the beginning of the 30th anniversary celebrations of INESC TEC in Porto.

In a universe of over 700 employees, there are many months in which the performance of more than one collaborator is worthy of note in the “Limelight” section. Proof of that is that oftentimes we have more than one person nominated. For that reason, we decided to change the rules: as of edition No. 144, BIP will highlight all nominees each month, and all will be equal in merit.
INESC TEC with best paper award in Saudi Arabia
Hugo Paredes, Hugo Fernandes, André Sousa, Vítor Filipe and João Barroso, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), received a best paper award at the International Conference on Recent Advances in Computer Systems (RACS-2015), which took place between 30 November and 1 December at the College of Computer Science and Engineering, Hail University, in Saudi Arabia.

In June, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) started an R&D consulting project on wind power forecasting for EDP Renováveis.
INESC TEC wins another Best Paper Award
Ana Paiva and Nuno Flores, researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), have won a Best Paper Award as part of the HEAD'16 – 2nd International Conference on Higher Education Advances, which took place in Valencia, Spain, between 21 and 23 June.
Prize for article presented at the Brazilian Congress on Informatics in Education
The article "SimProgramming: uma abordagem motivacional para a aprendizagem de alunos intermediários de programação” [SimProgramming: a motivational approach to learning for intermediate students of programming], by Ricardo Rodrigues Nunes, researcher at the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) of INESC TEC, won the award for best paper at the "III Workshop on Teaching Computational Thinking, Algorithms and Programming - WAlgProg/2017".
INESC TEC focuses on internationalization with new Service and Office
The progressive internationalization of INESC TEC activities, the expansion to new markets and the identification of opportunities abroad, led the Board of Directors to create a new structure to support international activities, the International Relations Office, and a new office of its dependency, focused on contacts with India - the India Office.
