INESC TEC starts project on cyber physical production systems

INESC TEC has recently kicked off the European project BEinCPPS – Business Experiments in Cyber Physical Production Systems, where the goal is to promote the implementation of cyber physical production systems (CPPS) in small and medium enterprises.

INESC TEC has recently kicked off the European project BEinCPPS – Business Experiments in Cyber Physical Production Systems, where the goal is to promote the implementation of cyber physical production systems (CPPS) in small and medium enterprises.

More specifically, the project team will create a cloud-based production platform in five European regions (Lombardia, Italy; Euskadi, Spain; Baden Wuertemberg, Germany; the North of Portugal; and Rhone Alpes, France), which can afterwards be applied in different European regions, involving local centres of competence and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The goal with the BEinCPPS is to dramatically improve the adoption of cyber physical systems all over Europe by creating and promoting regional innovation ecosystems composed of centres of competence, manufacturing companies, and SMEs in the area of IT.
Because these systems use the most recent developments in computer science, information and communication technologies, and production technologies and research, it is expected that the CPPS will lead to Europe’s 4th Industrial Revolution.

INESC TEC is represented by its Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE), which specialises in this area. Kyaia will be the demonstrator and the Portuguese Footwear Centre (Centro Tecnológico do Calçado, CTC) will be representing the Portuguese sector and in charge of disseminating the results. The INESC TEC team involved in this project is composed of César Toscano, Rui Rebelo and Pedro Ribeiro.

The project includes over two dozen partners from Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Serbia, Switzerland and Austria. The project is coordinated by the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
