INESC P&D Brasil starts new European Project
In January, INESC P&D Brasil signed the IT (Consortium Agreement) of the ITCity project, which featured four partners from South America and three partners from the European Union. The project entitled “An Information and Communication Technology Platform for a Sustainable Energy Ecosystem in Smart Cities” aims to build a smart platform based on Information and Communication Technologies to meet the needs of an intelligent, inclusive and sustainable city.

Part of INESC TEC mission is to provide advanced training at its R&D centres in their different areas of expertise. July was a month dedicated to advanced training. Several INESC TEC researchers have organised three summer schools – visum, MAP Breast and ASCOS. The first two were promoted by researchers from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM), and the last by the Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP).
€7.8M European project in the energy field comes to an end
INESC TEC, represented by its Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), has been participating since September 2013 in project evolvDSO - Development of Methodologies and Tools for New and Evolving DSO Roles for Efficient DRES Integration in Distribution Networks.
INESC TEC and APDL celebrate 20 years of partnership
INESC TEC and the APDL (Port Authority for the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo, SA) signed an addendum to their cooperation protocol during the Business2Sea, formerly called the Sea Fair. This year the initiative took place at the Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre on November 16.
INESC TEC project wins “European Energy Project” award
The REStable (Improvement of Renewables-based System Services Through Better Interaction of European Control Zones) project, which has the collaboration of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) of INESC TEC, won the “European Energy Project” special prize at the Academy of Energy awards. Handelsblatt, a German economic newspaper, awarded the prize.
INESC TEC participates in a project about electric connections between south of Europe and North of Africa
The INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems started this month with the project MedTSO. The project proposes to evaluate the viability and the technical impact of the construction of several electric connections between the south of Europe and the Norte of Africa.
INESC TEC and FCUP organise “Science Fiction Week”
Science in science fiction is the motto for the “SYFY Scientific Review – Science Fiction Week”, which will include one day of films and another day of lectures and discussions. The event is organised by INESC TEC and the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP), and will take place on 17 and 18 September, at FCUP.

On 8 June, the new Associate Bodies of INESC TEC were elected as part of the General Council Meeting.
INESC TEC team wins world contest once again
Leonel Carvalho, researcher at the Centre for Power and Energy (CPES) of INESC TEC, and Vladimiro Miranda, member of INESC TEC’s board, won once more an international competition organised by the biggest professional association in the world, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

INESC TEC hosted the "InteGrid Day" on the afternoon of 23 November at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

HOPE is the name of the videogame that won a prize of 50 thousand euros by getting the first place of the Astellas Oncology C3 Prize, an international competition that distinguishes the best technological therapies for cancer patients.

INESC TEC was present at the inaugural meeting of the mobilising project PRODUTECH SIF – Solutions for the Industry of the Future, which took place on 2 November at the AIMMAP, PRODUTECH and CATIM facilities.
INESC TEC in project with IKEA Industry
INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) is currently providing services to IKEA Industry. The goal is to design the layout for the production system and thus optimise the use of machines, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Following this project, IKEA Industry hopes to double their production capacity.
INESC TEC co-organises event in Luxembourg as part of Enterprise Europe Network
The 2015 Manufuture (B2B Brokerage Event of the Enterprise Europe Network) is co-organised by INESC TEC, partner of the Network, and will take place between 23 and 24 November in Luxemburg. Registrations (free of charge) are open until 20 November.
INESC TEC researchers receive 100 thousand euros from the Google Innovation Fund
Google's Digital News Initiative (DNI) innovation fund, which aims to support and encourage innovation in digital journalism over the next three years, has offered around € 100,000 to fund two projects by researchers at INESC TE’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), developed jointly by the University of Porto.
Another IEEE Fellow at INESC TEC
The IEEE has announced that João Abel Peças Lopes, Full Professor at FEUP and Member of the Board of INESC TEC, has been nominated IEEE Fellow "for contributions to microgrids and the integration of wind generation."
INESC P&D Brasil coordinates project on power grid monitoring
In November 2015, INESC P&D Brasil started project TECCON II – Technology for Smart Grids, where the goal is to increase the efficiency, reliability and safety of power transmission lines, using optical fibre-based sensing systems.
