More autonomy in mine detection operations

Developed in partnership with CRAS, INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems, the goal of the Mission Planning project is to develop tools for planning and deploying autonomous underwater vehicle missions to detect mines more efficiently.

The idea is to use resources more efficiently by providing a detailed analysis of the surrounding area and effectively detecting targets. As part of the project, tests will be conducted in a real environment.

Funded by the EDA - European Defense Agency, the Mission Planning also features the following institutions as partners: Saab Dynamics AB (Sweden), Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt (Norway), Whitehead Sistemi Subaquei S.p.a. (Italy) and WTD71 (Germany).

The INESC TEC team in this project is led by Aníbal Matos and Nuno Cruz. The project started in June 2016 and will be concluded in October 2018.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with UP-FEUP.
