INESC TEC defines robotics research lines for the European framework Horizon 2020

On 15 October, INESC TEC’s Robotics and Intelligent Systems (ROBIS) participated in the general assembly of the euRobotics AISBL, a European robotics association located in Brussels that gathers several industrial partners and research and education institutions which play a relevant role in this area at European level. This association is a privileged partner of the European Commission because it helps define R&D policies in robotics as part of the Horizon 2020 programme.

One of the most important subjects discussed at the general assembly was the robotics roadmap, particularly the definition of priorities for the next calls within the Horizon 2020. In this meeting, participants approved the basic strategic R&D agenda in robotics and recommended the main areas of application for each call, according to the objectives defined by the European Commission: Call 1 (2014) – manufacture, commercial, civil and agriculture and Call 2 (2015) – healthcare, consumption and transportation.

Considering the prestige that these actions bring, INESC TEC, member and founding partner of the euRobotics AISBL, was represented at the event as a result of the work developed to define a "Multi-Annual Roadmap" for European robotics. The INESC TEC member represented in this event was Alfredo Martins, a researcher at ROBIS.

The next annual meeting of euRobotics (European Robotics Forum) will take place between 12 and 14 March 2014 in Rovereto, Italy.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this article is associated with the following partner institution: ISEP.
