The ceremony was attended by former students, professors, colleagues and friends  who at some point followed closely the career of the former professor. After the tributes and the “Last Lesson” by Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, in which he addressed different aspects of his academic career, the ceremony was concluded with a surprise: a musical moment by Pedro Burmester.

At INESC TEC from the very beginning, in 1985, Pedro Guedes de Oliveira is a reference to the INESC TEC community which always saw in him a pioneer with the eyes set on the future. Pedro Guedes de Oliveira concluded his degree in electrical engineering in 1968 and his doctoral studies after having worked in Utrecht, Netherlands, on  bio signal processing, more specifically electroencephalography. In 1975, together with José Carlos Príncipe (President of INESC TEC’s Scientific Advisory Board) and Alte da Veiga, he launched the Department of Electrical Engineering  and Telecommunications at University of Aveiro, having also spent two sabbatical periods at the University of Florida, USA.

Born and raised in the city of Porto, Pedro Guedes de Oliveira was the president of INESC Porto from its autonomy process in 1998 to 2005. He gave his last class at the age of 70.
