Edinho Bez, a Brazilian federal representative, has visited INESC TEC on 18 January. As a result he had the opportunity to get familisarised with the technologies INESC TEC has developed for the sea – namely for port management, following the visit to APDL (Port Authority of Leixões and Viana do Castelo). Together with the APDL and TRIEDE, INESC TEC has developed a solution of reference for ports.

During the visit, Edinho Bez had the opportunity to get to know INESC TEC’s work in underwater monitoring and mining, offshore communications and wifi/internet without satellite, or search and rescue operations at sea, and to watch some videos  of INESC TEC’s robotic equipment, such as MARES or TURTLE. According to the Brazilian representative, the goal with this visit was to “promote further partnerships with Portugal, more specifically in this area which is so important for both countries. Brazil has over 8,500 kilometers of maritime coast and we have the perfect conditions to have 50 thousand kilometers of waterways. And Portugal is our origin, so this friendship between our two nations will be fundamental to promote partnerships”, states Edinho Bez.

At the end of the visit,  the federal representative revealed that “he was surprised with the work conducted by INESC TEC. I had heard of 3Port before, for example, and of the research conducted at INESC TEC in general, but I was really surprised with the INESC TEC’s progress in this particular area.”

“I will surely present and recommend this work in my country, namely to companies that manage ports and fishing ports, as well as to the mining representative in Brazil. I would like to congratulate INESC TEC for the work done, and especially the researchers who are responsible for this research that is extremely important not only in Brazil and Portugal, but all over the world”, he reveals.

Edinho Bez represents the State of Santa Catarina in the Chamber of Representatives, and is the Rapporteur of the Ports and Waterways Subcommission of the  Parliamentary Commission for Traffic and Transportation. He is currently on the sixth consecutive mandate, and in the past he served as Secretary of State for Infrastructures in the State of Santa Catarina.
