UTM Lab meeting: Wireless Communications Research at MIT: Advances and Challenges

Talk by Pedro Pinto from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Overview of the research pursued at the MIT Wireless Communications Group. The group has performed pioneering work on ultrawideband (UWB) radio, and provided a foundation for the design of UWB wireless networks. We will focus on the advances and current challenges in the fields of UWB synchronization, location-aware networks, network interference, channel characterization, and physical-layer security.

Pedro graduated from FEUP in 2003 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2006. Since 2004,  he has been with the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), where he is now a Ph.D. candidate. His main research interests are in wireless communications and signal processing. He was the recipient of the Claude E. Shannon Fellowship in 2007, the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE ICUWB in 2006, and the Infineon Technologies Award in 2003.
