Health Parliament project features member of INESC TEC

After three years of existence, the Health Parliament project has now come to Portugal to challenge 60 young people to think about public health policies in the country. The working group, selected from 442 applications, features Mário Amorim Lopes, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI).

With the motto «Thinking Health in advance», six commissions, dedicated to different topics, will be issuing recommendations for the future of health in Portugal, promoting debates and parliamentary sessions, visits to hospitals and research centres, among other activities.

For six months, topics such as «The patient at the heart of the decision», «Ethics», «Mental Health», «Health Information Technologies», «Obstacles to Health Care» and «Knowledge Economy» will be discussed by people from different backgrounds, such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, consultants, researchers, lawyers, teachers, advisors, rehabilitation technicians, analysts or managers, who have a common willingness to contribute to the improvement of the Portuguese health system. Although the ideas are communicated throughout the development of the project, there will be a final academic publication for each commission, which will include the respective recommendations and warnings, to be presented to the European Parliament.

This initiative takes place during the year 2017 and brings together the Nova University of Lisbon, Janssen (pharmaceutical company of the Johnson & Johnson group), the newspaper Expresso and Microsoft.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
