The present invention describes an optical fibre device based on a fibre Bragg grating in a ring configuration. The optical fibre device consists of a fibre Bragg grating written into an optical fibre. The device can be glued or embedded into advanced composite materials. This structure works as a sensor which is capable of simultaneously measuring temperature and strain.
Using appropriate interrogation systems, this device is also capable of measuring strain and/or bending separately to temperature. The device can also be used in optical fibre communication systems to perform dynamic dispersion compensation.
