Titled “Implementing operation-based CRDTs in Lasp”, Georges Younes’s work is supervised by Christopher Meiklejohn, a PhD student at Université Catholique in Louvain, Belgium, and its goal is to improve a new programming model, the Lasp, designed to simplify large-scale distributed programming using Conflict-free replicated data type (CRDT).

According to the researcher, participating in this summer school “will be a wonderful opportunity to work in a highly professional environment in collaboration with open source organisations and experienced mentors. At the same time, I will be able to contribute to the open source community.” At the end of the programme, Georges Younes will receive a certificate from Google and his code will be available for the entire community.

The summer school has a duration of three months, during which each student will work on their proposal, with the supervision of their mentors, and receive funding for a Google scholarship. In 2016, a total of 1,206 candidates were accepted out of 7,543 applications.

In total, almost 11 thousand students and 10 thousand mentors from over 113 countries have already benefited from this initiative  .
