Today end-users have a highly nomadic lifestyle and expect to have Internet access independently of geographical location and network. However, the fact is that current Internet models are lagging behind given that their design never had to cope with situations where the end-user moved (frequently or not) across different types of networks (multi-access networks), and assuming the presence of multi-mode devices: despite the variety of available possibilities, terminals and networks are not ready to transparently and intelligently allow the end-user to be connected anywhere, anytime, anytime.
Future Internet models have to integrate properties that allow nomadic end-user experience for any application across multi-access or single-access networks, assuming that one or more operators are involved. In other words, "intelligent connectivity" is a key property to consider in future Internet models. This talk gives an introduction to global mobility and to intelligent connectivity. Current directions are to be explained, as well as the building blocks of intelligent connectivity, opportunities it brings, and how it fits into the future Internet theme.
