Advanced Tools to Manage Electricity Grids with Large-scale Wind Generation

Project ANEMOS.plus began in 2008 and its goal was to develop tools that used probabilistic forecasting of wind power to support decisions relating to the management of the electrical system and participation in the electricity market. In the second phase of the project, these tools were demonstrated in an operational mode for different end users including REN. The project lasted for three and a half years.

As part of the project, INESC TEC developed three tools. The tools are used to help fix the system’s operational reserve, to evaluate the possibility of congestion and variations in the voltage of the transmission grid, and to optimise the coordination of wind farms and hydro plants with storage facilities.
