Experts meet in Porto to discuss smarter energy management (Sapo Tek)
Managing energy through computational intelligence, similarly to what happens in a human brain – this is Portugal’s goal. The best strategy to do that will be discussed between 11 and 17 September, in Porto.
For seven days, the city of Porto will host the ISAP - Intelligent Systems Applications to Power Systems, Conference and Debate, gathering about 100 national and international experts in the areas of energy and intelligent systems who will be discussing the use of computational tools in these areas.
The goal with this debate is to contribute to the development of solutions that can be applied in the Portuguese context, and exported worldwide.
“Portugal is at the forefront in terms of energy. We have been developing various concepts over the past few years, such as smart grids, which are being replicated in European projects. An example of that is the concept of Energy Box and the way it was implemented in Évora by the EDP”, explains Vladimiro Miranda, member of the Board of the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) and chairman of ISAP.
The main keynote speaker is José Carlos Príncipe, one of the world’s leading experts in computational neuroengineering, distinguished with the title of IEEE Fellow (the highest professional degree awarded by this North-American institution), professor at the University of Florida and founder of the Computational NeuroEngineering Laboratory. On 14 September, José Carlos Príncipe will be opening the discussion with the question “Are cognitive architectures useful in power systems applications?”.
Organised by INESC
TEC, ISAP will take place at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto
(FEUP).
