INESC TEC develops innovative algorithms for wind power forecasting in Spain

INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) has recently started an R&D consulting project for the Spanish company Meteobit. The goal with this project is to develop new wind forecasting models and to produce a manual of good practices to address this problem.

The idea is to reduce the current wind forecasting error by exploring a spatially distributed numerical weather forecast, combining artificial neuron networks and techniques to cluster time series – dimensionality reduction and deep learning.

These new wind forecasting techniques will be tested in three wind parks in Spain using different numerical weather forecast models.

The final product will consist of a set of software modules that can be used to increase the competitiveness of the company in the Spanish wind forecasting service market.

The CPES collaborators involved in this project are Ricardo Bessa, Renato Fernandes and Dewan Fayzur.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
