Multi-criterion scheduling and optimisation for projects in a production environment
INESC TEC is developing an integrated planning and scheduling tool for its longtime partner Softi9, with a prestigious Metal Mold manufacturer as the final client. Manufacturing metal molds in small and even unitary quantities with close due dates involves tens of precision milling, welding and lathing operations, most of them requiring CNC (computer numerical control) programs that must be developed in time to execute the operations. Additionally, the first N parts to be executed in each operation undergo an iterative approach to fine tune the CNC program for the remaining quantity to be produced.
The planner is thus offered a set of decision support tools so that it is possible to plan, in an integrated way, the work of a team of CNC programmers with specific skills, and to schedule the complex production process in the shop floor.
