Lung CAD

With the Lung CAD project we aim to create a computer-aided diagnosis system useful in the early detection of lung lesions, such as subtle lung nodules, or non-solid nodules such as ground glass opacities.

Among all the different pathologies, lung cancer is one of the most dangerous cancers in the world. For instance, in the United States, the total number of deaths from lung cancer is higher than the sum of deaths from colon, breast and prostate cancer combined.

Given the relevance of these diseases, an early diagnosis is crucial in order to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment, and thus improve the chances of survival.

 Lungs

The purpose of the Biomedical Imaging Lab is to design and develop CAD systems that automatically detect and generate evidence to the radiologists that can optimise the early diagnosis and, therefore, maximise the medical treatments. Special focus is given to the early detection of subtle nodules and non-solid nodules such as ground glass opacities.
