SUMMARY:UTM Lab meeting\: Fast Handovers in 802.11 with 802.1X Reauthentications
DTSTART:20090312T140000Z
DTEND:20090312T150000Z
DESCRIPTION:Resumo\:\nThe talk is about a fast\, secure handover proto
col for 802.11 networks.\nThe protocol keeps the security functionalit
ies of 802.1X but uses a new\nreauthentication protocol that promotes
fast handovers during\nreassociations. The reauthentication protocol r
 ecovers the original\n802.11 paradigm\: authenticate first\, reassocia
te next. Following this\nparadigm\, two new 802.11 authentication and
reassociation protocols\nwhere conceived\, which allow a mobile statio
n to perform 802.1X\nreauthentications before reassociations with the
 same functionality of a\ncomplete 802.1X authentication. Furthermore\,
  reassociation protocols are\nauthenticated\, preventing denial-or-ser
vice scenarios that are not\nhandled by 802.11i. This novel approach r
equires little from the\nenvironment\, namely a new\, central Reauthen
tication Service\, for storing\ndata used in the reauthentication of s
tations. The time of\nsecurity-related tasks that contribute to handov
er delays was\ndramatically reduced to 1.5~ms\, while an 802.1X fast r
esume takes more\nthan 150~ms. Finally\, the new protocol addresses mo
st design goals and\nproblems stated by standards' working groups for
 fast\, secure roaming in\n802.11.
