Integration of a photovoltaic power plant in Rwanda's power system
INESC TEC studies integration of photovoltaic power plant in Rwanda
INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) has concluded the studies on the integration of a 15 megawatt photovoltaic power plant in Rwanda, one of the largest in East Africa.
The work assessed the impact of connecting the photovoltaic wind park, by analysing the power system’s behaviour in steady and dynamic state, according to the variations in renewable resources.
The studies were conducted by the CPES researchers Luís Seca, Carlos Moreira and Bernardo Silva, for Gesto Energy, a Portuguese consulting company that won an international competition to build and operate the photovoltaic power plant in Rwanda. Gesto Energy’s project, developed in partnership with the South African society TMM Renewables, represents an investment of over 20 million dollars (14.7 million Euros).
