Member of the Board of INESC TEC joins PSDP IEEE

João Abel Peças Lopes, member of the Board of INESC TEC and full professor at FEUP, has been appointed member of the Power System Dynamic Performance Committee (PSDP) of the IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Member of the Board of INESC TEC joins PSDP IEEE

João Peças Lopes

The distinction, approved unanimously, is a result of his important contribution to research and consequent involvement in the activities developed by the PSDP.

The former coordinator of INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems, João Peças Lopes has already led several INESC TEC projects involving dynamic behaviour studies of large interconnected systems and isolated grids, such as Madeira, Azores, Cape Verde Islands and Greece. More specifically, these projects assessed the impact of wind power generation in these grids.

The PSDP studies various aspects of the dynamic behaviour of electrical power systems. It aims to promote studies and research, organise debates and events and coordinate existing studies, cooperating with other interest groups in this scientific area.

The IEEE, based in the United States, is the most important professional and scientific organisation in the world dedicated to the field of electrical and computer engineering. The IEEE covers more than 420,000 members in about 160 countries and is a leader in the development of international standards that influence telecommunication systems, information technology and power generation.

João Peças Lopes, who is also an IEEE Fellow, now reinforces INESC TEC’s presence in IEEE Technical Committees, contributing to increasing the international recognition of the quality of scientific and technological work developed in Portugal and in the institution, which brings together some of the best engineering schools in the country.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with UP-FEUP.
